The Art of Hanging Art and Pictures

via Imperfect
No matter how many pieces of furniture I own or place in a room, I always feel a sense of emptiness whenever I have bare walls. It would always seem that I capture the most wonderful and memorable moments yet I have them all hoarded on my phone or my computer. Or I will buy a great piece of artwork (or find a neat African carved head by the alley way- post to come) and plan on putting them up but never manage to get them showcased out to the world. While I may share many of my favorite pics on Facebook or Instagram, there is just something about a hung picture or artwork hung that instantly transports me back to that memory and brings back happiness and excitement.

This being said it can be a challenge to determine which, out of all the pictures or art, is best to use and then the second most important step- how to display them? From using frames with a variation of sizes, styles and colors to the many hanging options, its almost limitless the number of ways to do so.

Here are a few great examples I've come across that show the many different solutions. They are all great ways to use to show off your favorite art, photos or the combination of the two to bring about a sense of nostalgia and warmth to your home.

Framed & Unframed Art
via GoodLifeBlog
Here the focal wall has a great variation of artwork, balancing all the pictures visually by using black frames.

Black on White
via Jennifer Squires
Alternating black and white frames with black and white photos definitely adds little pizzazz.
Frames Squared
via DesireToInspire
Hanging frames within frames are also a fun and simple way to add great interest to a wall.

A(Different)Symmetry
via HomeDecor&InteriorDesign
Not all arrangements have to be fitted to a perfect square. These are hung asymmetrically and came out totally charming.

Perfect For Hall Walls
via Pinterest
This one for me represents great balance between the use of small, medium and large frames.
Magic In Multiples
via Pinterest
In a tight, windowless hallway adding multiple photos can not only act as a great reflective surfaces to bounce light off of but can also make the space feel larger while doing so!
Hanging Around Shelves
via MySweetPrintsBlog
Add a little functionality by hanging pictures directly to the wall and some on floating shelves.
Personalize corners
via Houzz
I love how they added a little coziness to this corner with cute family photos and simple framed art.
Suspending Photos
via Iartu.blogspot.com
Suspending photos with a rope or wire is fun and unique way to showcase you most treasured moments.
Also check out this link to Canadian House & Home for additional tips for hanging art from grouping, to lighting and even height preferences. Do you have a certain method that works for you? How do you prefer to hang your photos?

Pop Art Chairs

There are so many ways to dress up dining chairs with colorful fabrics and graphics, but what about a chair covered in bright fish, grass or flames?

There are so many ways to dress up dining chairs with colorful fabrics and graphics, but what about a chair covered in bright fish, grass or flames? On my visit into the D&D Building in NYC I stopped by the showroom, where I roamed around giddily and snapped pictures of these awesome Pop Art chairs.

Not only do the chairs come in a variation of shapes, sizes and styles but you can customize each design with their stock or your very own! Here are a few pieces that I came across and was instantly attracted to.

This chair reminds me of the Disney movie Up. Doesn't it? So much fun
As soon as you enter the showroom you are greeted with this bold array of colors and art! I love how simplistic the top row is with the rainbow of colors and their organic counterparts on the bottom showcasing the many options to make these chairs come alive! I especially enjoyed the fire chair! I think the associate was over my very many bad puns, one of which was "Oh, that chair is so hot!"

Which one is your favorite?

Outstanding Religious Architecture

There is something amazing and awe inspiring about detailed architecture within religious buildings.  A little something special that just wows and stops me in my tracks, demanding attention of those who believe or not. Between the amazing efforts or just pure brilliance that it takes to create such detailed lines, amazing colors which seem to last the test of time.

Inspiring Spaces: Music Rooms

I'm so very grateful to have you wonderful folks who enjoy reading my blogs and am always excited to post guest blogs by my fellow design lovers! My friend Jessica from Arcadian Lighting kindly wrote a blog for Designtology on inspiring music themed rooms that she has found and their ability to marry great design with muiscality. A definite fun read for other music lovers out there!

Thanks so much Jessica for youre wonderful contribution! *I personally can see myself making music in image 2 and I especially like the ultra modern ceiling lights for number 6.*

Hello! I'm Jessica, a writer for Arcadian Lighting, a wonderful online resource for affordable light fixtures. Every day I get to search for beautiful interior design inspirations and then share them on lovely blogs, like Designtology. Thank you for letting me stop by today, Krishana!

Whether you are a musician or simply a fan, designating a single room or space in your home for music is a wonderful way to create an inspiring atmosphere. Musical instruments are beautiful in their own right and make perfect decoration pieces. So, even if you've never mastered the piano, creating your very own music room inspired by your favorite musical instruments or genres will definitely liven up your home! I hope you enjoy!
Modern Music Room
The stark modern lines and subdued palette in this music room draws on the simple elegance of the piano. The Greek key rug adds a jolt of energy to the room, as well.

Eclectic Music Room
A playful mix of eclectic décor and musical instruments gives this music room a very casual, “anything goes” atmosphere. The sparkling chandelier strung up with magenta beads is a fitting accent piece.

Minimalist Music Room
There's no doubt that this room is all about music – even with its minimal décor and blank concrete walls. A single recliner and standing speakers say that this fan takes their music seriously.

Wall of Music
A collection of stringed instruments hung along the wall of this music room provide a lovely and inspiring focal point. I love the neutral tropical rug, too!

Music Lover Room
A few guitars and a Beatles' portrait reveal the true music lover who works at this desk. Even small apartments can make room for a shrine to music.

Industrial Music Room
This impressive room, known as “The Brain,” offers a stunning space for creativity. The industrial ceiling lights and bare bulbs strike a fun contrast against the traditional piano and bookcase.
Green Friendly Music Room
A bright and airy room filled with musical instruments and fresh greenery is the epitome of relaxing. A brilliant orange artwork provides a burst of energy and color to an otherwise low-key space.

Retro Music Room
The retro décor and collection of old records creates a wonderfully nostalgic atmosphere in this music room. I love the muted pink and orange wallpaper.

Which of these music rooms is your favorite? Let us know in the comments! And be sure to stop by Arcadian Lighting for a table lamp or pendant light to brighten your home!

In attic cutting-edge design fun modern quirky smart

Keep it Up! Above Average Attics

Attics & that rug!
Alongside closets, corners and nooks - attics are certainly underestimated for their potential as quaint but useable space. While they are mainly used for storing Christmas decor, seasonal clothing bins and probably loads of miscellaneous and dusty bins and boxes, with a little TLC they could become the perfect comfy and cozy area for guests or even for a simple retreat.

{I love the exposed wood and the bright contrast of colors of the accents, adding great patterns and textures and even charm to the room. It almost has a bathhouse feel. Simply add the bed, hold the steam!}

In bold chalkboard dark decor high gloss kitchen redesign small tiny

Small Kitchens With Big Impact

Many kitchens in the city are usually not only cramped but often lack sufficient storage space but with a little creativity and resourcefulness even the smallest kitchen can suit your everyday needs. Here are just a few examples of kitchens that help to keep me inspired to work on my own small kitchen.

I love using chalkboard paint and adding a small built in banquette with an octagon table gives this small kitchen a comfy, almost coffee house feel. I also love the multiple light fixtures.

via Tumbr
I love how they used a bold, dark color for the wall paired with a dramatic chandelier.

What a great use of apple green accents throughout this kitchen. I especially like the doggy portraits.

via Country Living
While very woody for my taste, I appreciate that they used every space available for this kitchen. Did you spot that wall mural going on by the window? Details to the very end!

via Kitchen Decorate
Me and the Hulk love this kitchen. What a bold choice to coat the kitchen in a high-gloss Granny Smith Apple green from the cabinets, the window shade to even the refrigerator!

via The Studio M Designs
Love this modern and simple galley kitchen and it's dark walls and cabinets.

Breaking Free of the Cubicle; Amazing Offices

While some companies might find blandness (and beigeness) to be an adequate work environment, there are some that are actually quite colorful and even fun! From sand floors and employee slides, these companies have offices that are creative, inspiring and are great examples of out-of-the-box design.

Pixar is another great example of creative and colorful designs. Being the epicenter of incredibly innovative and imaginative minds, it makes so much sense for them to be encased in such a stimulating environment.

Oooh! A castle!
White Mountain Office
This White Mountain Office was build 100 feet below ground out of anti-atomic shelter. While all 4,000 square feet was built for a Swedish data center, it feels to me to be more appropriate for  villainous get togethers (see pic below).
